In my lab we are enriching colloid science with the field of colloid biology. the Research in my lab is focused on the determination of the effect of the initial »seed« on the population and community development in space and time. The methods are based on the nongenetic modification of bacterial cells. We are developing different methods based on electrostatics to artificially modify surface of bacterial cells in order to force cells to attach on different surfaces, forming hetero- or homo- cellular aggregates in 3D or form multilayered planar structures. By addition of different nanoparticles on their surface bacterial cells can be then also remotely guided. The results of our approach are then used in applications such as development of smart carriers for degradation of pesticides.
