Thank you for doing this study. Several years ago, my previous husband developed septic shock, multi-organ failure and ARDS. He went into PEA and was resuscitated, intubated and placed on a ventilator. Over the course of the week to follow, the infection backed off, the organ functions came back, but he was unable to wean from the ventilator. He tried to write but was only able to scribble so he spelled out a word in sign language: E-N-O-U-G-H. He passed before my eyes within two minutes of extubation at 37 years of age. There were other chronic medical conditions involved and I recall that every specialist just wanted to look at their piece of the puzzle but no one was interested in trying to put the puzzle together. I am now having pulmonary issues that the doctors cannot figure out and jumping through the same hoops. In attempt to research my illness online, I came across your article. Thank you for thinking outside the box- particularly in an area where most physicians seem to just throw in the towel and call it a day. Your research and genuine concern for the patients you treat do bring much needed hope to the future of medicine.
